Today is the last day to visit the exhibition “Manolete. The man. The myth” at Las Ventas bullring, organised by the Community of Madrid Bullfighting Centre, which pays tribute to Manolete on the centenary of his birth. Guests at the opening were able to enjoy a glass of ZINIO Spanish wine, with canapés.
Coinciding with the Feria de San Isidro, the exhibition takes a look back at the life of Manuel Rodríguez, Manolete, through a series of 39 photographs from the archives of Santos Yubero (Regional Archive of the Community of Madrid) and Ricardo (Foundation Cajasur, Córdoba) as well as some more contemporary photos of the bullfighter. Guests could also learn about the bullfighter’s personal and professional moments.
Manolete became a leading figure in the world following the confirmation of his “Alternative” match, at Plaza de Las Ventas, during the Corrida Extraordinaria de Beneficencia in 1939, up till 16 July 1947, at another Beneficencia bullfight, just a month and a half before his tragic end at the Linares bullring.
Among the matador’s personal items that visitors can discover is the traje de luces (bullfighting suit) with which he was presented as a novillero at the Tetuán de las Victorias bullring, or a capote de brega (cape) from the Bullfighting Museum of Madrid.
To complement this exhibition, the Community of Madrid Bullfighting Centre will display, throughout the year, twelve panels with a hundred photographs depicting various moments in the life of Manolete, which can be viewed in the interior showcases of Tendido 1 at Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas.
